PTP Starter Kit: Getting Started with IEEE1588

PTP Starter Kit: Getting Started with IEEE1588

After Meinberg developed a GPS-synchronized IEEE 1588 Grandmaster Clock and, with the SyncBox/PTP, added a PTP-synchronized Client to their product range, they now combine the two products in a ready-to-use starter kit. In order to assist companies in finding out what PTP/IEEE 1588 can do to fulfill their synchronization requirements, Meinberg announced the availability of a PTP Starterkit today.
This PTP Starterkit has been created in close cooperation with the Industrial Ethernet specialist Hirschmann Automation and Control and the Institute of Embedded Systems (InES) at the Zürcher Hochschule Winterthur (ZHW), a Swiss University. The three partners created three different kits and offer them for a special promotion price in order to enable interested customers to test PTP by setting up their own testbeds or running tests in their regular network infrastructure.

All three Starterkit versions include a LANTIME M600/GPS/PTP Grandmaster by Meinberg and a Industrial Ethernet Switch MICE MS-20 by Hirschmann, which is already equipped with a IEEE1588-compliant media module and acts as a PTP Boundary Clock.

The client or slave clock role then can be taken either by a Meinberg SyncBox/PTP or a IEEE1588-PCI card, which runs under Linux and has been developed by InES/ZHW. A third possibility is to order the Starterkit version 3, which comes with both the SyncBox and the PCI card.

Together with the hardware the PTP-Starterkit users will get a Live CD, which boots a Linux, and provides driver support for the PCI card as well as a PTP management application developed by InES. This management application can be used without the PCI card. It allows users to review status information of all detected PTP objects and can change configuration parameters on those objects.

More details about the PTP Starterkit can be read on the PTP-Starterkit Website. There interesting companies can register themselves for receiving price and ordering information about the three versions of the Kit.

Please note: The number of available Starterkits has been limited.
