Question: Is it possible to use an indoor or window-mounted antenna with a Meinberg GPS radio clock or time server?

Answer: A number of manufacturers of GPS-based radio clocks and time servers claim that their systems can be run properly with a window mounted indoor GPS antenna. That could avoid the effort of mounting a GPS antenna on the roof or a location where the necessary free view of the sky can be archieved. Our experiences show that using a window mounted antenna is problematic and leads to reception problems at a lot of locations. Very often a 24/7 operation can not be assured with such an installation, leading to reduced accuracy and reliability. Meinberg GPS receivers could operate properly with window mounted antennas. Due to the bad experiences we made with this kind of installation, we do not offer such antennas and strongly recommend to mount the GPS antenna/converter unit somewhere providing the required free view of the sky.
