New PTP Client Software for Windows & Linux

Meinberg's IEEE1588-2008 Client Software, powered by Oregano Systems, allows to synchronize the time of Microsoft Windows / Linux based servers and Desktop PC's.

Bad Pyrmont, December 22, 2017 - Meinberg, one of the leading manufacturers of time and frequency synchronization solutions, introduces today the most complete PTP feature set for the two major operating systems, its brand new PTP-Client-Software.

The software uses the Oregano Systems PTP Stack at its core and achieves high performing time synchronization by implementing a IEEE 1588 ordinary clock stack. The clock stack supports both software - and hardware timestamping. Software timestamping can be used on any of the supported operating systems. For Windows, hardware timestamping is currently supported for IEEE 1588 supporting Oregano network cards. On Linux hardware timestamping can be enabled for all supporting network cards that use the standard PTP kernel framework (PHC).

The built-in support for most PTP configuration options and operational modes enables the user to configure it to work with almost any PTP Grandmaster Clock or PTP enabled network infrastructure.

By supporting the Meinberg NetSync Monitor Reverse PTP technology, the user can actively measure the performance of a PTP Client without relying on a self-reported state, which is a key advantage of the NetSync Monitor approach. By also supporting standard IEEE 1588-2008 management messages the Meinberg software is interoperable with other PTP monitoring solutions. The standard PTP management messages mechanism can be enabled and disabled in the configuration.

The supported PTP profiles are Default, Enterprise, Power, Telecom, Broadcast and AVB/TSN. They include any specific Best Master Clock Algorithm (BMCA) and also support for profile-specific TLVs.

Tests with various Linux and Windows systems have been carried out on both physical hardware and in virtualized environments and showed excellent synchronization performance for example being able to keep the system time of a Windows 2016 based server within less than 100 microseconds of UTC time.
