GOAL allows to connect a Meinberg GPS Receiver to the antenna over a fiber optic connection

GOAL is a GPS Optical Antenna Link set for connecting a Meinberg GPS antenna to a Meinberg GPS receiver via a optical multimode fiber. The GOAL6 module is connected to the receivers antenna input while the GOAL7 module is connected to the GPS antenna. Both modules are linked to each other via a single GI50/125µm or GI62,5/125µm multimode gradient fiber.

This kind of connection provides several advantages:

larger antenna cable distances
no destructive overvoltage via the antenna cable
no unintentional monitoring via optical fiber

The receiver-side module GOAL6 is supplied with a 18VDC voltage via the antenna cable, therefore an external power supply is not necessary. The module GOAL7 needs an external supply of 100-240V/50-60Hz for operating and feeding the GPS antenna. The GOAL system is suitable for all Meinberg GPS receivers (except GPS166), even upgrading existing installations is possible.

GOAL will be available at the end of the second quarter '05.
